Following are questions we often hear from folks thinking about renting a place on FishDigs and our best attempt at a helpful answer for each.

Q: How is trust built within the FishDigs community?
A: We build trust by using several methods to help establish the real-life identity of both Guests and Hosts. We prompt new members to: 1) upload a current photo of theselves, 2) upload a cropped section of a photo ID, 3) connect via a social media account such as FaceBook, and 4) add an email address and phone number which we verify individually. This information is then added to a user profile page that other users can visit and review. Both Hosts and Guests find this information very useful when deciding whom to interact with on FishDigs.

Q: Why are property addresses not shown?
A: In order to protect our Hosts and maintain a high level of security, we do not disclose the full address of our property listings nor their exact location prior to a completed booking. Each listing does feature a map that displays the basic area where the home is located. The actual property address is provided in a confirmation email after a booking is completed.

Q: Can I communicate privately with a Host before booking?
A: Yes! A private message feature can be found on each listing page under the listing name. It is the only way for Guests and Hosts to get in touch with one another to iron out details prior to a booking. Our messaging system allows one-on-one communication between Hosts and Guests and keeps contact information private until there is a confirmed reservation. Using the messaging system adds another degree of safety for both parties by keeping communications within the FishDigs environment.

Q: Can I write a review after my stay?
A: Absolutely. In fact, we strongly encourage you to do so. Reviews allow Hosts and Guests to establish an even better atmosphere of transparency and trust. Our review system lets you assign a star rating (1-5) as well as post a detailed write-up about your stay.

Q: What time is check-in and check-out?
A: Check-in and check-out times are defined by Hosts so please refer to individual listings for that information.

Q: What is the policy for early check-in or late check-out requests?
A: Some Hosts allow early check-ins or late check-outs. If available, this information is typically listed on their profile page. Use the messaging feature on the listing page before booking a place to ask the Host if they are flexible on check-in and/or check-out times.

Q: Do listed prices reflect a fee for a single night fee or the entire length of my stay?
A: Listed prices are for a single night.

Q: Are funds set aside in case of damage?
A: Similar to typical hotel policies, a security deposit is collected before the rental date in the form of a $1000 hold/authorization on your credit card. The deposit will be released within 48 hours of check-out if there are no damages to the Host’s property.

Q: Does the reservation price include the security deposit?
A: No. The $1000 hold/authorization will be placed on your credit card after the reservation price has been paid in full and is not included in the listed price. The funds set aside for damage are released if the Host does not report that there has been damage to the rental space.

Q: What is the total cost of booking a home?
A: At the time of booking, Guests are required to pay the listed rental price plus a 10% service fee. This fee appears during the check-out process.

Q: What payment types are accepted?
A: Our payment system accepts all major credits cards. If you are unable to pay due to extenuating circumstances (i.e natural disasters, serious illness, etc.), please contact us to arrange for an alternative payment method.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel my reservation?
A: If a contract is terminated at least 10 days in advance of the reservation date, you are eligible to receive a 100% refund minus service fees (the 3% credit card fee cannot be refunded, since FishDigs cannot recover that cost). Reservations canceled inside of 10 days of the reservation date are non-refundable.

Q: What is expected from me as a renter?
A: Just as our Hosts are expected to provide a clean and safe environment for our Guests, our Guests are expected to leave the rental space in the condition in in which they found it. We strongly recommend that you read this helpful blog post that outlines expectations for FishDigs Guests.
