A couple of years back I road-tripped with some buddies from Florida to Louisiana to chase redfish. Lodging choices in our destination were few — especially for guys who’d brought their own skiffs — but persistence led us to a local home for rent, and everything changed. That old stilt house and its location in the heart of a small fishing community literally made the trip. Why? Because it allowed us to live like locals and experience the Louisiana coast in a more meaningful, authentic way than a hotel or lodge ever could have. And an idea was born.
